In the world we live in today, where "hustle culture" pushes us to believe that working more hours is the only way to achieve success, it’s easy to feel guilty about prioritizing sleep. But for me, sleeping 8-9 hours a night is non-negotiable. Whether it’s a busy workday, a day filled with meetings, or even during stressful travel periods, I’ve found that I need a good 8-9 hours of sleep to function at my best. Let me take you through why this has become such an integral part of my life and what happens if I don’t get the rest my body demands.

The Beginning of My Sleep Journey
As an entrepreneur, my journey has been filled with its fair share of sleepless nights. In the early days of building my first startup, there were periods where I was getting by on just 4-5 hours of sleep, thinking that sacrificing sleep for work was the only way to achieve success. I would be up late, coding, planning strategies, and handling fires that seemed to pop up at the worst times.
But eventually, this lifestyle caught up with me. I was tired, irritable, and couldn’t focus. My productivity dropped, and I was often relying on caffeine to stay awake. That’s when I realized something had to change.
Discovering the Power of Sleep
One of the turning points came when I noticed that my best decisions and creative ideas always came after a good night’s sleep. In those early days, I had countless sleepless nights, trying to push through work. But when I finally allowed myself to sleep for 8-9 hours, I noticed a huge difference in my productivity and mental clarity. I’d wake up with fresh insights, and the problems that seemed unsolvable the night before suddenly had clear solutions.
Over time, I began to recognize that my body was simply wired to need more sleep. Unlike others who could thrive on 6 hours, I felt my best with a full 8-9 hours. And once I embraced this, it became non-negotiable for me.
